University of Ghana Medical Centre

Located in Legon, Accra, the University of Ghana Medical Centre is a major healthcare and research facility developed to support the country’s growing medical needs. Completed in 2016 for the University of Ghana, the project was both designed and constructed by EDC, ensuring a seamless delivery from concept to completion.

The facility includes multiple multi-level buildings that combine modern medical infrastructure with solid structural design. With a focus on long-term functionality and durability, the centre stands as a key pillar in Ghana’s healthcare system, offering advanced spaces for treatment, learning, and innovation.

Project Description

Buildings 1 and 2 are 4 level RC flat slabs supported on RC columns / walls on RC pad foundations. Lateral stability is provided by structural reinforced concrete walls in both planar orthogonal directions. Building 6 is a 5 – level post – tensioned concrete flat slab structure supported on RC columns/walls on RC pad foundations. Lateral stability is provided by structural reinforced concrete walls in both planar orthogonal directions.
